Is there going to be a Sims 5?

The Sims 5, also known as Project Rene, has been confirmed by EA. Last October, Maxis Studios/EA officially revealed that the next generation of The Sims is currently in development under the codename Project Rene.

Lyndsay Pearson, VP of Franchise Creative for The Sims, announced that The Sims team has been working on the next generation of The Sims under the codename Project Rene.

What Platforms Will The Sims 5 Be On?

As of the writing on this article, Maxis/EA has confirmed that The Sims 5 will be playable on PC and mobile. The team hasn’t officially confirmed console yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Only time will tell.

The Sims 5 Release Date

While an official release date for The Sims 5 hasn’t been announced, we shouldn’t expect a release date sooner than 2024. However, a release date of 2025 or later is far more likely. In October of 2022, when Maxis confirmed Project Rene, the team was sure to say that development is still a couple years out.

In the livestream, the focused on how much customization there will be in the game. In the screenshots above, you can see how they are able to change the color, pattern, shape, style, and position of various furniture. At one point, the developer shows how you can create a group of items, (in this case a sitting area) save it, and upload it to the gallery. This is going to be a huge feature that hopefully stays around as development progress.
